Lean and Learn is an online group for individuals with spasmodic dysphonia hosted via Zoom by Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Weekly group sessions are facilitated by a peer, a speech-language pathologist (SLP), and graduate students in an SLP program. Members discuss topics relevant to spasmodic dysphonia, share experiences and potentially develop supportive and friendly connections. There is no charge for participation.

Her area of specialization is Voice-Resonance Disorders, Craniofacial Anomalies and Gender Affirming Voice Care. Dr. Fisher teaches graduate level classes and supervises graduate clinicians in the evaluation and treatment of clients of all age.

During this get-together we will share our thoughts about how we may have woven a cocoon to protect ourselves from dysphonia struggles. We will share about how we have been able to find our wings and fly like a butterfly on our dysphonia journey. We will discuss five butterfly quotes and how they apply to our experiences with dysphonia.

The Greater Columbus Dysphonia Support Group will be gathering for a virtual meeting on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:00 PM EST.
Since the gathering is virtual, we have expanded our reach to include surrounding areas. All are welcome to attend no matter your location!

About Michael Johns, III, MD | Dr. Johns is passionate about medicine and about helping individuals with voice, swallowing and airway disorders. Prior to joining Keck Medicine of USC, Dr. Johns cofounded one of the first interdisciplinary voice centers in the United States at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is now director of the USC Voice Center, where he and his team members call on state-of-the-art technology for diagnosis and treatment, including awake laser therapy and vocal cord injections for age-related voice changes.

Mary has been a medical speech-language pathologist for over 30 years and currently owns a private practice, Voice Aerobics, LLC, located in SW Florida. She is the creator of the Voice Aerobics® family of products which are designed to blend the art and science of voice therapy into fun, home-based programs. These are designed to be used independently by patients with a goal of maximizing function and reducing some of the speech, voice, and motor symptoms.
