Legacy gifts have the power to transform an organization. In 2019, Mr. Mark Porter passed away, and his estate notified us that he had allocated a gift valued at more than one million dollars to Dysphonia International. His gift allows us to increase our commitment to scientific research directed toward diagnosis, treatment and a cure for spasmodic dysphonia and related voice conditions. In recognition of his extreme generosity, the Porter Research Fund was created, which formally commits a substantial portion of this bequest to fund research. The remainder will be used to enhance our education, awareness, and support programs.

Protect what matters by ensuring the safety and care of the people, pets, and communities you cherish. By taking proactive steps to safeguard what is most important, you can create a secure environment where everyone thrives. Additionally, offer ease for your loved ones by providing clear instructions on how your estate should be managed. This thoughtful preparation reduces complications and provides clarity, allowing your family to navigate the future with confidence and peace of mind.

Dysphonia International provides the option of using FreeWill, which is a secure online tool to create a will or trust. This tool will take you through the preparation process step by step. Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate us as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.

Gifting Through Your Retirement AccountsWhen you name a charity as a beneficiary to receive all or a portion of your IRA, 401(k), or 403(b) assets upon death, the benefits will multiply. Neither your heirs nor your estate will pay income taxes on the charitable distribution.

Gifting Through Your Donor-Advised Fund | You can name Dysphonia International as the beneficiary of the entire account or designate it to receive a percentage of the fund through annual grants until your DAF assets are depleted.

Gifting Life insurance | You can leave a portion of the policy to Dysphonia International and still benefit your family. However, you can also transfer the policy to the charity. When you do, you are entitled to immediate charitable deductions for income tax purposes and the policy is removed from the estate.

Gifting Through a Will or Trust When creating your will or revocable trust, you can designate a percentage or fixed amount of your assets to be gifted to Dysphonia International. Use FreeWill to help create it!

PLEASE NOTE: It’s important to contact your tax advisor to review all your options to maximize what you leave while minimizing the tax implications, then contact your attorney to formalize your estate plan.
