Please join us for a virtual meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2024, at 5:00 PM PST.
I hope you all had a safe, healthy and joyful New Year.
The first meeting of the new year will provide an opportunity for participants to share ideas with one another.
The topic to be discussed will be, “The Common Challenges Living With SD and Ways to Overcome Them” and will be facilitated by a Dysphonia International staff member. Spasmodic dysphonia and related voice conditions impact our lives in ways that can be life-altering, as they impact our ability to communicate. Please be prepared to share an incident when SD prevented you from communicating effectively and the adaptive action you took. By sharing our collective experiences we can learn to better live with SD, instead of viewing it as a disability.
Michael Johns, MD will also be present to answer any medical questions.

About Michael Johns, III, MD | Dr. Johns is passionate about medicine and about helping individuals with voice, swallowing and airway disorders. Prior to joining Keck Medicine of USC, Dr. Johns co-founded one of the first interdisciplinary voice centers in the United States at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is now director of the USC Voice Center, where he and his team members call on state-of-the-art technology for diagnosis and treatment, including awake laser therapy and vocal cord injections for age-related voice changes.
Dr. Johns received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in otolaryngology at the University of Michigan Medical Center – Ann Arbor, and his fellowship in laryngology at Vanderbilt University Hospital & Clinic.
