ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Dr. Steve Bielamowicz is Professor of Surgery and Chief of Otolaryngology at The George Washington University and is the Director of the Voice Treatment Center in Washington, DC. Dr. Bielamowicz grew up in Waco, Texas and graduated with honors from Baylor University. He completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Following medical school, he completed residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then completed a two-year neurolaryngology fellowship under the direction of Dr. Christy Ludlow in the Voice and Speech Laboratory in the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders at the National Institutes of Health.

After completing his training, he became faculty at The George Washington University in 1995 and developed the Voice Treatment Center with Dr. Sheila Stager, PhD, CCC-SLP in 1996. The Voice Treatment Center has focused on research within the field of neurolaryngology, including vocal fold paresis and paralysis, as well as the neural basis of voice production and the effects of dystonia on voice production. In addition, the center has been studying aging change of voice. In addition, Dr. Bielamowicz has worked in the field of computational fluid dynamics of voice production with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences of The George Washington University.

Dr. Bielamowicz’s clinical practice is limited to the evaluation of voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. He provides both medical and surgical treatment of illness.

On a personal level, Dr. Bielamowicz has coached baseball in McLean Little League for the last 20 years and serves on the board as Treasurer.  He and his wife, Anne, are avid birders and enjoy seeing the birds of the US and of the world.  He has been married to Anne for over 30 years, and she is an anesthesiologist.  Dr. Bielamowicz has two children, Matthew and Nicholas.  Matthew works for Fund Box and lives in Colorado and Nicholas works for Grant Thornton in Manhattan.
