Anyone read this book? Seems to controvert much of the current beliefs about SD. Advocates Direct Voice Rehabilitation. Seems to make sence to me. I am interested in feedback from others who may have ready the book. Please post! Larry Smith AD/SD.

If I remember correctly, and this is the right book, this is also the guy who is convinced SD isn't neurological! At that point I threw it back down as useless. (I believe the word people have been using is 'quack')

Thanks for the post. I am still fairly new to SD and exploring all possibilities. And trying to figure out who the real quacks are! The allergist that said my problems were from allergies, the internist that gave me pills that would dry up niagra falls, the ENT that referred me to the allergist, the ENT that referred me to another ENT, the ENT that referred me to the Otolaryngologist, the Otolaryngologist that gave me a botox shot that kept me from talking much at all for 2 months, etc.,etc.,etc. None of these people are really quacks but there is a lot of misdirected energy. I am going to try some of Dr Cooper's techniques and see what happens. Nothing lost! If it doesn't work I just get a copper bracelett or something! I hear they cure all kinds of things. Ha! Larry.

I haven't looked at the website by Cooper but I wanted to say that there is no cure. Chasing down a cure is THE waste of time. I have, after ten years of struggling with this disorder, finally decided to accept myself as I am. I try to recognize accommodations that help;ie standing while I speak, relaxing as much as possible, voice amplification and the biggest step for me is personal acceptance. I'm still working on it...but I did give up on finding the cure.

Thanks for the post. I appreciate your being candid. My grandmother had a plaque on her wall that comes to mind. Life is not the candle and not the wick....its the burning. We don't know what fortune or misfortune will come our way. All we know is that it will come. I'm probably singing in the rain, but I'd rather sing than cry. My grandmother celebrated her 90th birthday this past Sunday. She has been in a nursing home for about 5 years now after her stroke. She can hardly talk and is confined to a wheelchair. She continues to praise God for her many blessings. She continues to sing in the rain. Thanks, Larry.

Yes. I read this one as well as "Change Your Voice, Change Your Life" and other works by the same author and worked the program, as best I could through the books and with my speech therapists for several years.

SD is a very complex condition which demonstrates clear duality: it is BOTH neurological as well as dysphonic. There are numerous dysphonias (speech/vocal disorders) which are not neurological. Some of them sound similar to SD. Spasmodic Dysphonia (also known as "Laryngeal Dystonia") is neurological.

Larry, you may enjoy researching the SD-BB Archives in regard to this subject. There have been many worthy posts in the past few years. Or, feel free to write me off the Bulletin Board.

Any positive results from your speach therapy? Do you recall if others realized positive results for this technique? Thanks, Larry.
