Hi, I guess I'll introduce myself. I've had SD (both AD/AB with lots of tremor) for eleven years. It has been a huge struggle for me to accept that I have a disability. Finally, after 10 years of trying- I can say that I have a disability without crying. So, finally, I'm ready to join this bulletin board, have discussion, get voice amplification and give up on trying to sound pretty! I look forward to going to a support meeting, tomorrow, for the very first time in Seattle.

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the introduction and welcome to the SD bulletin board. After living with SD for 11 years, I'm sure you will be able to contribute much experience to the board. Hope you make some new friends at the support group meeting tomorrow. Once again, welcome.

Welcome Sarah,

Good you now feel comfortable introducing yourself. So many of us have struggled with a deep sense of loss, losing our voices and frequently the life that was attached to our voice. I relate, as so many others do also. You will find much support and information here.

There are many wonderful folks on the West Coast who contibute to the BB and to other supportive forums for SD'ers. I hope your first support group meeting up North is as supportive as this Bulletin Board is. Please write if you need any additional information.

My hopes are that those tears turn into big smiles (of recognition, understanding and similarity), with all the other SD'ers you will meet. You are not alone.

Hi Sarah,

I also have mixed/SD. My air way will go shut at times

for a little bit and I seem to have the need to clear my throat

a lot. Do you have the same.

Frank

No, Frank, I do not. Does this occur around Botox times? Has Botox been successful for you? I received about six treatments, none of which provided much relief. I sometimes wonder if I didn't give it enough time or if maybe it is because I am mixed AD/AB.

Do you smoke?

No Sarah I do not smoke anymore. I quite 3 yrs. ago.

I do not take Botox injections. Its spasams of the false

vocal cords that cause them to go shut shutting off my

air way.

Frank
