Hi,everybody! My name is Mitch Rollins.I live in Norman,OK. I've suffered with this speech problem for almost 13yrs.Have been to ENT's off & on.Finally,my primary Dr referred me to a ENT that has been much more attentive to my problem than any of the others. He thinks I definitely have SD.I go this Wed to a specialist of SD to see if I do have it.Wish me luck, folks! It's been a long road for me & I'm so glad I found this BB because I have finally found others with the same symtoms I have & don't feel alone & weird anymore!

Hello Mitch,

Welcome. I also have had a speech problem for 15 years. But I was misdiagnosed with Asthma. I just recently found out that I have Abductor S/D. Im still learning more about this disorder. Im learning a lot from this bulletin Board. I always thought I was the only one like this. It's nice to know that Im not, and there are people out there that care and are supportive and willing to help you. You've come to the right place. I have met a lot of wonderful people so far.

I am going to see my Specialist on the 10th of this month, for voice therapy, my first one. I hope it helps me. Since this is the beginning of this voice disorder journey for me and I still have a lot to learn about it, I cant give you many answers. But I am a good listener.

If you need anything, just let me know.

Paula ab/sd

Welcome, Paula and Mitch!

I bleed for you both, for having suffered the impact of SD for so many years without getting to professionals who can really treat it and without having access to those who, like you, are struggling to deal with it effectively. I'm glad you are here. Please keep asking (and check the archives) -- I've learned such a lot, and it has strengthened and comforted me. No, I'm not nuts; no, I didn't bring this on myself by not taking enough vacations or by being too stubborn to stop talking for a few weeks to rest my voice [imagine that! not being able to talk would "cure" SD!]; no, I don't have to feel that I'm alone in facing this condition.

We're here for each other -- thank heaven!

Welcome, Mitch. You'll find lots of good information on this board. And you can use it to share good information with others. Good luck and keep posting.
