I've just learned that the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides vouchers that cover 100% of the cost of an "outgoing voice amplification device" for state residents whose need for voice amplification is certified. To receive a voucher, you complete and submit a simple form that has been signed by one of a doctor, nurse, speech therapist, special education teacher, etc.

I have no information on programs in other states, but would be surprised if such a program exists only in Texas. (And, maybe, someday, the Commission will be called the Texas Commission for Communication Disorders. Go figure.)

Linda,

Very interesting. I'm fully familiar with many of the programs in California and haven't run into one like this yet, but now you've inspired me to do some additional research.

I just ordered a Chattervox and will submit the bill to my insurance company who *should* pay, as they've been paying for my voice-related things for many years (except they wouldn't cover Botox), including recently with laryngeal system failure. (IOW, I used to just have severe AD-SD and now I have other definable vocal disorders, due to the side-effects of my RLN surgery).

This is excellent information. Hope it motivates everyone to check out their own State benefits. Thanks.

--Lynne (AD/SD; Northern California)
