I Went To Neurologist, AND...

Well, I just went to my first Neurologist appointment. First, I'd like to thank everyone for their input about "What to expect". You were right. I was only asked a couple of questions. My problem involved tremor with my SD and my hands, and he had me do several postures with my hands, tap my feet, pretend I'm playing a piano (I"m also a keyboardist). He already knew I had AB SD, but seemed more concerned with my hand tremor. And he did a blood test.

He figured the hand tremors could be related to my SD (segment dystonia?), and/or Essential Tremor.

He also prescribed Topamax, to help the tremor. (he said it wouldn't help my speech, but "you never know"). If it helps tremor in my hands, I'd think it would also help voice tremor.

I looked Topomax up on the Net, and found it's used as an anti-epileptic. Nothing about tremor. Plus, there are possible side effects like blurred vision (could be damaging), and confusion. Doesn't sound like something I'd like to use!

Has anyone else used Topamax for tremors?

Hey chick.....glad to hear it went so well. A lot of the seizure meds tend to do double duty as anti- spasmodics...Neurontin would be an example of this....a secondary seizure med that's also used for tremors.Catch ya soon.
