Hi Everyone, For the patients who have had the SLAD surgery...Did anyone have problems with their insurance companies for coverage of this treatment. My insurance refuses, stating they will not cover since the procedure is in phase III of FDA approval....Just wondering? Thanks, Theresa |

Both Medicare and my secondary insurance paid for the procedure. Do not give up. Keep going back to the insurance company again and again. I also heard that it was sometimes better to have the Medical facility contact the company for approval. I read an article a while back that said a lot of insurance companies turn down the initial applications because a lot of people accept that. Keep trying and good luck. |

Theresa, My insurance paid without any difficulty. I agree, the best way to do it is to have the facility where you will have the surgery contact the insurance company. There are accepted diagnostic and treatment codes for SD. Do yourself a favor and ask for the supervisor of the insurance company department that you are dealing with and then only speak to that person in the future. Just explain that it is a complicated situation and it is diffult for you to speak! It saved me a tremendous amount of time and the repeating of information. Also, follow up frequently with that particular person at the insurance company. Don't wait for them to call you! Good luck! Jodie AD/SD FL SLAD/3-02 |

I agree with the above two posts. My SLAD/R surgery was 2 1/2 years ago with Dr. Berke. His office handled ALL the insurance arrangements and I did not interract with the insurance company at all. I believe the office staff code the procedure to the best advantage with the insurance company and it is wise for us "civilians" to stay out of it. After my Champus insurance paid, I was left with about $650.00 to pay out of my pocket. Well worth it! Good luck! Lloy AD/post SLAD/R CA |
