Worse voice after Botox??

Hi, folks!

I've been a very bad girl and haven't kept up with my BB listings for, oh, at least a few months. (Shame, shame, shame on me!)

In July I traveled out to Philly and had AB Botox injections with Dr. Blumin. My voice stabilized. It wasn't perfect, but I could manage it with very little spasms/dropping-off-into-nothings. But now that the shot has worn off, my voice is much, much, much worse than it's ever been. Granted, it wasn't great to begin with, but I could usually struggle through and catch it before it broke down to nothing.

Now, however, I can't. It's impossible to control my speech; it's almost impossible to talk. This is agonizing, especially at my job. I have one performer and one band I have to interview next week (both, wouldn't you know it, over the phone) and am at loss as how to handle it. I mean, my voice usually quakes and dives when I interview, but people can understand me.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed a worse voice after the Botox has worn off??

Thanks so much!

Cinthia, AB (with a touch of AD), Alaska

Hi Cinthia,

I also live in Alaska..Fairbanks...I have been receiving botox for a little over 5 years now....And I know how you feel about a worse voice. And I especially relate to talking on the phone. I have to have my botox every 3 months or there is not much communication happening with me.

Take Care and Good Luck with the interview...

Theresa

Cinthia and Theresa:

Regarding special difficulties of using the phone, I know exactly what you mean. The phone was an enemy until it was conquered using a technique suggested by my speech therapist. The technique in described in a recent posting "slaying the 'dreaded phone' dragon." I hope that information may be useful to you.

Linda

AB - 3 years

no botox; alternative phonation via speech therapy

P.S. The phone technique is not dependent on alternative phonation.
