Is it a good idea to give your voice a rest, right after getting a Botox injection? Last week I had a mild (1 unit) dose of Botox, injected AD style, both sides. If you caught my previous post re. Compensatory Muscles, this is an experiment to get my overworked compensatory muscles to relax. I have AB SD, but the doc felt this AD style injection may improve my voice, judging from the Scope. After a couple of days, my voice became quite breathy, alot like laryngitis (but still with SD problems). I was told it may take 2 weeks to settle in and improve. Seems the more I use my voice the worse it gets. I've had 3 previous AB injections before, and none worked. Hopefully this injection will help. Meanwhile I don't know if it hurts my voice to try to talk, while this Botox runs its course. This kind of reaction is new to me, so I seek the wisdom of you Botox Pros out there...! |

hi i have tried both ways and i have found that resting my voice for 24 hours does seem to help the injection last longer. it also depends on if the doctor gets the right spot with the injection. hope this helps. kathy ad/sd |

Thanks, Kathy, for your reply. Since I just had the shot last week, I'm still in this breathy phase...kind of like laryngitis mixed with SD! I asked my ENT and the speech pathologist at the same clinic...both said I can't hurt my voice now by overtalking, just may get lightheaded if too breathy. Quality-wise, it seems to help if I rest my voice when I can. As I've said before, I've never had an AD injection before so this is all new to me. |
