Interesting news. At our last support group meeting Rose(our support group leader) asked me to be the new support group leader because she said that I know more about SD than she does(because of my research on this BB and my attendance of several symposiums). I was shocked but honored. So--I'm going to try to be the support group leader and hope that I can do it justice. We'll see how it goes... Renee Urban ADSD/ Austin, TEXAS |

Way to go Renee, I know you'll do a terrific job as new leader of your support group. You are indeed very knowledgable about the idiosyncrasies of SD and have contributed much to this BB over time. It was also a pleasure meeting you at the last NSDA symposium in Scottsdale in March. Best wishes, Lloyd Pearson(BC) Canada AD/SD |

Renee! Great. Congratulations. You will do a wonderful job and please keep in touch if you need support, suggestions or contacts with other successful SD support groups, like our new local one out here. I remember when you first came onto the BB, less than two years ago. Yes, you've done your homework and learned alot. I could tell a big difference in your knowledge/understanding-level between meeting you in Michigan in 3/2001, when you were a "new-guy" and a year later in Arizona. What a difference a year can make. Also, your previous support group leader deserves much credit for recognizing this and moving aside. I applaud her. She obviously has the interests of patients in mind. Some people in the same situation would be threatened by your knowledge and try to hang on and discredit you. Kudos to Rose. I hope she stays in the group. As you know, Texas is one of the few areas "out West" where there is a high degree of SD support activity. Most of the activism in the NSDA is East of the Mississippi. Several Texans have done alot on behalf of SD patients, with the NSDA and the web. You and I both know who they are (Anne, Lylia and Peggy and several others) and it's always great to see them at Symposiums. Looks like you are "next in line" as a Texan supporting others with our disorder. You have the personal strength, the knowledge, the skill and the contacts to be an excellent support group leader, helping other SD'ers ~ especially newly diagnosed patients. Best of luck in this new role and do good work!! See you in Washington, DC in March! --Lynne (your SD friend AND NSDA Pacific Regional Coodinator) |

I'm impressed that there is good support in TX, I'm from TX originally - and I would normally expect folks from that state to just tell you to "pray". :) Hopefully the support you get is indeed not even remotely limited to just religious/mythological support? |

Todd, Not sure if you are directing your message to me or someone else, but your post is right below mine, as if you were responding to me. I hope that, with your post, you are supporting Renee Urban in her new role as an SD Support Group Leader in Austin, Texas. I've met her in person and am confident she is capable of inspiring patients and garnering support in her area. What I said, in mentioning other support leaders (on behalf of patients) in Texas, is true. And..."no"...they do not ask us to pray or conjure religious/mythological anything. I've met and spent much time with these fine women over the years. Their interests are only in supporting other SD patients in managing their own cases. I hope this information helps you manage your own case. Good luck. --Lynne |

>>Not sure if you are directing your message to me or someone else, but your post is right below mine, as if you were responding to me.<< Sorry, I thought the fact that the Texas referance was specific to your post, made its placement and order clear. Again, sorry for any confusion. Good luck. --modified by Moderator-DB at Wed, Oct 02, 2002, 22:22:28 |
