Hi, my doctor moved to another state and I am looking for someone closer to home in Virginia. I live in the Western part of the state but have been driving to Norfolk which is about 4 hours from here.

Thanks.

Doris,

The physician referral list at:

http://www.dysphonia.org/nsda/healthcare/

lists several doctors in Charlottesville and Richmond, they should be closer to you than Norfolk. I don't have any experience with them personally so I can't make any recommendations.

William, thank you for the physicians referral list. I guess it is experience I am looking for. I had a great doctor in Norfolk who was right on target most of the time, however, several years ago I had a terrible car accident on my way home from his office and searched for someone closer to home. I found a doctor closer but I didn't have much luck with the injections and was starting to consider surgery. Instead I decided to go back to my orginal doctor in Norfolk and was sorry that I didn't stick with him after the accident. (It just took me awhile to get over the accident). But he moved away and now has a replacement. The new doctor gave me an injection a week ago but it is barely working. He had a difficult time getting a signal from the EMG and my neck was very bruised and swollen and so was my throat. After I left the office and had a chance to look in a mirror I knew right away what was wrong. The injection sight was much too high. He said that I was his hardest patient of the day and he was very nice and calm. He took his time and told me that he was determined to find the correct spot that this injection was for me. In other words, his bedside manner was very good and I know that he will improve with experience, however, I don't know that I want to go though that experience again. So I am just looking at other options. I feel rather sad about the whole ordeal because I had started to feel good about my injections and comfortable about the whole procedure. We even stay at Virginia Beach, which is right there and have a timeshare there that I stay in when I go in December and May. Soooo I just wish I had had a better experience with the new doctor. The bottom line is I have to decide if I should give this doctor another chance or go for one in Richmond. Does anyone know anything about Dr. Armstrong in Richmond? Thanks everyone for allowing me to vent. Do you think I should let the doctor know that he was in the wrong area and that it is not working so well? I never went into the breathy stage. It is sort of like when it starts to wear off. Gosh, I hope he doesn't read this!!!! LOL.

Doris--

I live in Fredericksburg, VA & I had been seeing Dr. Bielamowicz who works at GWU in DC. I don't know how far that is from you, but he specializes in sd and I think it's worth the drive.

Kristan,

Sorry, I just discovered your Post. Thank you so much for your information, although GWU would be quite a drive for me it is a possibility. I haven't decided if I should give my doctor another try or not but it's nice to know I have all the folks on this BB to be so helpful.

Thanks again for your info.
