Botox & insurance coverage AND methods for lessening SD on phone

Hello all,

1. So it's been a month since I got my first shots of botox and my SD (mainly SD on phone) has come back badly! My insurance company won't cover anymore shots until a full 3 months has gone by. I was wondering if anyone ever was in the same situation? Is there an estimate for the procedure without insurance? It's annoying because the first dose is the trial dose and (obviously) wasn't strong enough, so it upsets me that I have to wait 2 more months to receive coverage especially since it was just a
test run".

2. My SD isn't nearly as bad in person (usually) as it is on the phone. Does anyone have any methods for making the SD less noticeable during phone calls? I've tried making my voice higher but it isn't really helping- still have a lot of noticeable breaks to the point where people say "I think you have a bad connection/need a new phone" :(

Any and all feedback is appreciated! Happy New Year!

That is frustrating about your insurance. Would an amplifier help on the phone? You may be trying to project your voice more when speaking on the phone and that greater effort is exacerbating your symptoms.

Vocational Rehab bought me a Voice Magnifier. It hooks up between the receiver and the phone base and works off a 9V transistor battery. There is a dial you use to increase the volume. The biggest drawback is that it doesn't work for cordless or cell phones. I've had it for a number of years so there may be other, wireless devices available now.

I've found a good resource is my state's assistive technology department. Your state's vocational rehab should be able to direct you to them.

Good luck and hang in there. Cynthia

The phone has also been very difficult for me, too. No good ideas, I'm sorry. Others complain about the phone, drive through ordering. Noisy places also are hard for me, too.

I have not tried this, just passing it on. I heard someone say its easier to talk lying down. Obviously not a good idea at work.
