Hi there, I was diagnosed with SD in March of this year. Botox is working but the terribly quiet/breathy voice for 3 weeks after the shot is difficult. Anyway, Im exploring with my psychiatrist if Tardive Dyskonesia is the cause of my SD. I went through a lapse of schizo-affective disorder years ago, and have been on an anti psychotic medication since. Anti psychotics can cause Tardive Dyskonesia, which is uncontrolled body/muscle movements. They are weeding me off the drug and looking at alternatives, with hopes of exploring if the anti psychotic is causing SD. What a thrill it would be if the SD disappeared after im off this drug. But Tardive Dyskonesia is often permanent, once it starts. Never seen TD and SD discussed together on this board. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone suspect that TD is the cause of their SD?

I have had other TD symptoms on another drug such as shaky legs, which went away when i went off that particular drug. But the one of interest was back in 2007 when i tried risperidal for a few months and experienced voice problems which went away after i went of the drug. Didnt think much of it, until i had worse voice problems earlier this 2013, then diagnosed as SD. The history could be suggestive that theres something there. |

No expert here but from reading a bit about TD it seems quite different from SD. SD is more along the lines of an intention tremor or spasm. At rest there are no symptoms. It's when we move (speak in this case) that the problems appear. TD appears to be involuntary movements even at rest so on the surface would have a different triggering mechanism. Both are movement disorders I'd guess and stem from irregularity in the brain and central nervous system. This is a good question for the experts. |

It is Tardive Dystonia . I have similar problem, which is probably produced by an Anti-psychotic drug I used for five years. My MD says it may or maynot be caused by that Anti-psychotic drug. Now I have stopped that drug since last three years. But SD is permanent. |
