I haven't had that reaction but I've heard of a few others who have. It's not too common. How are you doing now? I would have "laryngitis for 3-4 weeks and then a normal voice as the botox started to wear off.

Hi thanks for responding. I'm doing better. Started a Mucinex product, the one with only Guaifenesin. I take every 4 hours during the day and it helps me have clearer voice for few hours with each dose. Without product my voice is mostly 'froggy' and hard to understand. Drinking lots of water. So far today haven't needed product but voice can go quickly. You mentioned laryngitis for several weeks after botox. Did you get some voice improvement a few days after botox, then laryngitis? Was your laryngitis whispery, breathy? Can I pretty much expect same effects after each botox or variations? I've read books available on SD botox plus articles. But if you have questions when you're done reading there's no one to ask. Any info appreciated.

I had "laryngitis" not in the traditional sense. It was like laryngitis in that you're breathy and very gradually my voice would come back. I had a very good doctor so he was consistently good at injecting, but results can vary depending on the strength of the botox, if the doctor injected the right site, and your own physiology.

If I have questions, I don't hesitate to call my doctor :-) I know that my questions may seem silly to them, but this is new to me, and I want to understand what is going on. My doctors have been very patient and helpful.

Yep, the extra phlegm is part of the side effects. It happens every time for me. They encourage you not to keep clearing your throat, just fluids. I've had many shots for 18 years and have had varying results.

Just to say, I believe it is the botox that causes the phlegm and not where you have the injections.
I have Cervical Dystonia and have several neck muscles injected with Dysport. I don'd have S.D. so don't have vocal cords injected. In my earlier days of injections, I just had my saliva go very thick. Because I generally get swallowing difficulties after the Botox, I had to sleep propped up for 2 -3 weeks each cycle as I felt I was drowning as thick saliva collected.
Then the saliva issues stopped but I got phlegm instead for about 8 out of each 13 weeks. Linda

Thank you all for replying. Since my last posting, began taking Claritin (plain not 'D') every day which has helped keep the phlegm cleared from vocal cords. I have allergies as well. Had first botox injection approx 8 weeks ago and after moving through minor swallowing difficulties along with the phlegm, I'd say I've had about 5 good weeks of voice, some days better than others. BUT just noticed am starting to run short of breath when speaking. Not noticeable in voice yet but think this might be indicator that I'm slipping back. Is it necessary to wait for full blown symptoms to return before next injection?
