I know the Boston Support Group spoke about acupuncture to treat SD. I lost the email with info. Has anyone had success with acupuncture to treat SD?

I don't know of anyone who has tried acupuncture. The nerve that is affected runs from the basal ganglia alongside of the brain over the ear and down into the vocal cords, so I'm not sure how an acupuncture specialist would deal with that.

I had some acupuncture several years ago when I was at the beginning of my SD journey. It made no difference to my SD, either for better or worse.

I agree with irish earlier in this thread - the SD voice is the symptom of inappropriate signals from the brain to the larynx; the problem is neurological (brain-based) and I don't see how acupuncture would help with that - in the same way I'd be surprised if acupuncture could help with Parkinsons or multiple sclerosis.

I had three sets of acupuncture treatments in the 1990's, one from a caucasian acupuncturist and two trained in China. None of the treatments made any material difference, and I endorse David Barton's comment above about acupuncture not being permanently helpful given SD's underlying neurological nature.

I have been doing acupuncture for 6 weeks (once per week) and it helps for about 24-48 hours. I'm going to ask they do gua sha, a procedure that pushes out tension in the muscles.
They do it on the body but I'm going to ask if they can do it on my throat. It might break up muscle tension.
