I have the EXACT same thing happen to me. I am a teacher and if I talk loud (like the voice I use when I take attendance and the students are still a bit noisy) I can get through the class period without students asking me "what's wrong with your voice Ms. Havlik? Laughing sounds completely normal. Sometimes I find myself laughint as a response instead of the response that I actually want to say because it is easier, and sounds more normal. When I get upset or cry, my voice is also normal. I can also sing and sound completely fine. But when it comes to talking in a normal speaking voice, it is almost impossible.

Hmm well although still not completely ruled out, this neurologist does not think that I have Spasmodic Dysphonia, but rather a vocal Chord paralysis. will hopefully know more, from the one scope that I did have my ent did say I have a slightly bowed vocal chord i tell you sometimes it sounds all the same to me..

Yes that is common with SD. Right after I cry laugh or yell i sound great. Sometimes when i am laying down my voice sounds normal as well. I asked my doctor about this and he said the signals for producing voice sounds for laughing and such come from a different part of the brain.
