Has anyone had any luck with a voice enhancer? If so, what kind, and where did you get it? I had botox Friday, and I could really use a little boost to talk louder. Soon after botox injections, I have very little voice.

I should have said "voice amplifier." I just saw one on Ebay for $53. It was made in China. I wonder if it is any good.

I am a teacher. When I first began the botox treatments my principal had an amplifier system installed in my classroom. The mic hung around my neck. Needless to say during my "breathiness" stage after a treatment it didn't help as well as I would have liked. Of course I was trying to be heard by a group of 25 or so 3rd graders. This past year my job position has changed to resource teacher which has been much easier to handle since I mainly work with small groups of children. I know there are other types of voice amplifiers available which may work better than my system did.

Hi. I found one from Israel that is like the one my group leader uses. I ordered it this morning. One of my best friends died yesterday, and I needed to make phone calls today and just couldn't do it. I'll let you know how the amplifier works. It cost about $100. Good luck to you, fellow teacher.

Here is a write-up from the NSDA:

NATIONAL SPASMODIC DYSPHONIA ASSOCIATION

Resources for Personal Voice Amplifiers

The following items have been used by people with spasmodic dysphonia and have been found to be effective in projecting his/her’s voice. We hope these resources are useful.

Spokeman Personal Voice Amplifier
High-quality, small device that helps project volume and keeps you from straining too much. It comes in a little case that can be set on the table or clipped on your belt, etc. One person added velcro straps to be worn around the upper arm like an iPod.

Recommended with this unit is the Hi-Gain 3-Way Headband Microphone, which can be worn three ways -- around the back of the head, over the top of the head, or around the back of the neck.

Sources for purchase:
Soundbytes at www.soundbytes.com
Luminaud at www.luminaud.com.
Both places have a 30 day, money back return policy, so if you think it might help, you can at least try it out first.

Voicette by Luminaud
Good sound quality but is a bit bulky. It can be worn over the shoulder like a purse or attached to a belt.

Source for purchase:
Luminaud at www.luminaud.com.

ChatterVox
The Chattervox is somewhat smaller and is worn like a fanny pack. It is available from a variety of sources including Luminaud and Bruce Medical

Bruce Medical at www.brucemedical.com

Thoughts on Microphones
You also might want to think about what type of microphone to use because a hand-held microphone will get old quickly. A headset microphone is very convenient and will turn along with your head but it can be tiresome to wear for a long time. Collar microphones, which just attaches to your collar, are convenient, but you have to be careful about speaking into the microphone if your turn your head.

Disclaimer: The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Assocation only provides information about these voice amplifications systems and is not recommending or promoting any one product.

hi peggy, soft voice after treatment is resolved for me by use of ZaVox amplifier with transdermal microphone on neckband directly over vocal cords. no other mic picks up voice.
