Insurance coverage for SLAD

I am seeking to have the SLAD surgery and am at the point where Dr. Berke's scheduler is obtaining approval from my insurance company to cover it. It's been close to 2 weeks since I faxed my insurance card to her, and I haven't heard back. Has anyone who has had this surgery had United Healthcare as their insurer? How did that go? Can anyone who has been approved (for any insurance company) give me a ballpark idea of how long this part takes? I've had SD for over 20 years, and have learned patience well. But since being deemed a candidate for this surgery, I've suddenly become impatient and excitable. So I thought maybe a little feedback from the SD Bull Board my take the edge off. :-) Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

I have United Healthcare. ( I've not had SLAD surgery ) I am a healthcare professional , and I do know that United healthcare is probably the most meticulous about certifying coverage and procedures. I would hope/expect them to cover it; but patience is a key. 2 weeks does not seem excessive time to me.
Let us know how it goes. Best of health, and luck to you.

My HMO is Capital Health Plan. Yes, it did take a bit longer than two weeks for me to get the notification.

Thanks for your feedback Mike. It's great to hear from others that things are happening in a normal way. This forum is a great tool.

Meticulous is a euphemism I wouldn't bestow upon UHC, but I know what you mean. Thanks so much, Renee for giving me something to help me keep my impatience in check. I've been in this queue before, but never when the stakes seemed so important. Your words are very kind and helpful. Much Appreciated!!!

Dr. Berke's office is very good in working with you on insurance. Kaiser and Aetna, I know, have been difficult ones. Also some times the doctors at these insurances are not aware of SLAD-R surgery because we are in that rare group.

Some have even called it experimental surgery, which it isn't. Dr. Berke's office has been very good about talking to these uninformed doctors. So I'm sure that you will get the support that you need.
