Does anyone have esophageal spasms also? I take Nexium everyday for my reflux, which causes me to have these spasms. When I do have a spasm it feels like my throat is tightening and it radiates across my chest around my heart area and through my left shoulder. Which can make some people think they are having a heart attack. When the spasms are really bad I have to take nitroglycerin to stop them.
I found this out last year when I thought I was having a heart attack and the EMT's tried nitro on me and the symptoms subsided. My doctor said that was a classic case of Esophageal Spasms. I have had this dysphonia for almost 3 months now. So I was just wondering if anyone else had the spasms as well. |

I have heard of others who have experienced similar spasms, even though I have not. You are not alone. Interesting that nitroglycerin works. |

I too have esophageal spasms, only mine spasms are under my left breast. I feel like I'm having a heart attack and literally can't move bc the pain is so extreme. I am not on any medicine for it because I have a lot of other stuff going on that docs are trying to figure out and treat, including ABSD. |

I've had a few incidents of airway blockage lasting a matter of seconds. The doctor says it could be a spasm from the bronchial area. I had not related the two, but recently have had a "tingling" sensation under my left breast where the heart is located. Maybe this could be a spasm. My doctor gave me nexium to try. I also have AbSD. I'll be checking back on your posts and your progress. Bev |
