I also saw her on Oprah but was disappointed with the lack of information regarding dysphonia, and the perception that it was all due to stress, that was presented. Has anyone found there to be further explanation of her diagnosis and treatment, or lack of it?

From what I've learned about her situation, her vocal dysphonia affects her singing voice, not her speaking voice. Nevertheless, it is good when celebrities talk about their personal struggles with dysphonia.

I am watching the Shania Twain series on the OWN network right this minute. I am confused because 1)my understanding of dysphonia is that we have a part of our brain that is different. It was found in a clinical trial done by Dr. Simonyan at NIH and was just recently published in our newsletter. 2) It is my understanding that dyphonia is a neurological disorder. A neurological disorder can't be improved/changed by learning to forgive (as Shania is doing) or learning to express herself.

I'm upset that Shania Twain is putting out erroneous information.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THAT I FOUND ON THE BULLETIN BOARD ANSWERS MY TWO QUESTIONS THAT I JUST PUT UP ON THE BULLETIN BOARD. THIS EXPLAINS WHAT SHANIA TWAIN IS SAYING ABOUT HER "VOICE CONDITION" .................

We just learned that this going to be a story on Functional Dysphonia tonight on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer. It will look at the use of laryngeal massage as an effective for treatment for muscular tension dysphonia or functional dysphonia, which there is usually a behavioral source for the problem.
Muscle tension dysphonia and functional dysphonia are distinctly different to spasmodic dysphonia as it is neurological based. In some cases where the disorders overlap and a person has spasmodic dysphonia and muscle tension dysphonia, it may help relieve the symptoms of the muscle tension dysphonia.
