Novocain before Botox injections | ![]() | ||

Immediately after the visit for the Botox injections I have a great voice that lasts maybe about 12 hours. The doctor said this would likely be the case which I believe to be the result of the the Novocain injections used before the Botox injections. It's too bad they can't come up with something that has long term effects of the Novocain injections. Is this the experience of others? |

I believe you mean Lidocaine for numbing the throat. Novacaine is used for the teeth. I use to get Lidocaine when I first got my injections, but realized that hurt the most. For the past 5 years, I just take a valium 1 hr. before to relax the muscles, and they just inject right through my neck while sitting in a chair. Nothing to it... but I've had at least 90 injections. P.S. Someone always drives me, but the valium has already worn off by the time I leave. |

Lidocaine it may be...not sure...it's also used in denistry. My point is...whatever the anesthesia...it seems to be what provides the great voice immediately after the injection appointment...not the Botox which takes a day or two to begin its effect and this is the bad side effects period which, in my case, can last for weeks. If they could just somehow accomplish a prolonged affect that the anesthesia has it would be wonderful. |

I've asked about that before and each Dr. who has given me botox explains, it's not the botox working immediately as that doesn't kick in until about 24-48 hours. It's only the volumn put into the vocal cord that makes it sound normal. The anesthesia has nothing to do with the sound after. |

I'm not given Novocain before the botox injections but my voice seems better an hour or two after the injections until the predictable changes set in a day or two later. I think my voice is better during this short period because I'm more relaxed knowing that the shots are behind me and better days are ahead. |
