The state of California voters just disapproved the legalization of marijuana for recreational use. However, it is legalized for medical usage in CA and several other states. This brings to mind a question that may apply to us. Marijuana is said to effect receptors in the brain areas that influence many senses including movement coordination. Influencing movement coordination is most interesting for someone with SD or Dystonia. It would be interesting to know if anyone has been able to control their SD spasms through the use of this drug. Anyone care to comment?

I grew up in the sixties where MJ use was very common. I never had any experience with it in regards to SD, but it seems like someone could get it through RX here in California. MJ basically has a sedating affect and relaxes muscles so I can see that it might be beneficial.

LOL. Well, there you go. LOL. Thanx for that comic relief (no disrespect intended). I recall some of my fellows in my Vietname days, smoking and joking and making mistakes in the process that cost others (and themselves) dearly. I am trying to imagine speaking clearly, if somewhat elated and incoherent, and the impact I would have under the influence of MJ in the workplace, at home, in church, etc. Not sure the advantages of med-MJ outweigh the disadvantages even under the best of controlled conditions. The research would need to be "controlled & focused" that's for sure, but any benefit would likely offer less benefit than simple Botox treatment. Very likely, many of us who were initially misdiagnosed, were treated similarly with anti-anxiety, anti-depressant meds all to little or no avail, for even when we thought the voice was improved, others did not). That's firsthand. In fact, over these 20+ years of the malady, medications seem to exacerbate the situation. My two-cents-worth only. But again, thanks for the comic releif, if unintended. Peace. |

Soon after I was diagnosed a friend provided me with some weed. I smoked and tried out my voice for several hours until the effects wore off. Gotta say, it was a fun experiment, but you would have to stay pretty stoned all the time to actually benefit from it. At least that was my experience. |

First I would like to say the gentleman was being quite disrespectful. No questions about this disorder should be comic relief for anyone. It was suggested to me to try it, I did and could speak clearly for the frist time in two years. The second time same result. Have tried it twice since with no results. Don't know reason for the positive results the first two times butI suspect THC levels. I haven't tried it since due to drug testing issues at work. It can be prescribed by doctors on most states for medical usage. As for the Botox I drive 6 hours to one of the best doctors in the country for injections, have had probably eight with only one good result so botox isn't for everyone. Hope this helps and good luck |
