Mine aren't because he does it down through the mouth and I drink some stuff to numb it all up. Afterwards my throat can be sore though from the injections. |

I had my first injections on 3/11 and while I do have a high tolerance for pain, I barely felt a prick on my throat...not painfull at all! I do hear that my Doctor is considered one the best (Dr Berke at UCLA)...I had no discomfort after the injections at all...good luck! |

I have a terrible and traumatic time each time I get my shots. The anesthesia shots are painful. The botox shots are painful. Am I a baby?-no- I had natural childbirth with a 10 pound 5 oz. baby. I have a high tolerance for pain but my botox shots are terrible! I have a very thick thyroid membrane and the doctor can not get through it easily. So much so that he wants to put a hole in the membrane surgically. The time before last he went in to my throat 6 times and after an hour we had to settle for just one cord. This last time we only did one vocal cord. He uses a camera to locate the vocal cords too. I also have trouble with swallowing and choking after the shot for the duration of time the botox works. I love to talk-what else can I do? |

Again--alot of this has to do with the skill of the doctor. NORMALLY-the shots should feel no more than like a prick in the throat, but sometimes I gag on the botox, and that is uncomfortable...Good Luck! Renee aDSD/ Austin, TEXAS |

Surprisingly NO!! I get a general anaesthetic through the front of my neck first, which makes me want to sit up & cough, it feels a little strange, but, it doesn't hurt..Then the actual injecting of botox into the vocal cords takes only a few minutes..Small price to pay to be able to talk again..Thank goodness SD (in most cases) is treatable with minimal discomfort..Regards..Jenni Marsh..ADSD Since 2002..Australia Modified by Jenny at Sun, Mar 14, 2010, 21:44:47 |

For me it is uncomfortable mostly. Sometimes it goes good then other times it feels like the worst scratchy throat ever while they are doing it. I think I am nervous everytime I go. My doctor has offered me valium but I preferred not to. But that may help someone else. |

My doctor at GW is excellent. He's done in less than a minute! I stopped getting the shot to numb the skin because that hurt more than the botox it self. I was living in Florida for a few years and tried a doctor in Miami. Horrible experience then blamed it on me being tense. What a joke. Then it didn't even work. |
