Day 15 after Botox

This is day 15 after botox, and I am still sounding rough especially if I am tired. But I definitely sound better than I did before botox. I talked to the doctor on Monday, and she said that I sounded good to her. I must learn to be more patient. When I went to Christmas get-togethers, people were very understanding. If I were in a loud room, I just listened and tried not to talk at all. If people said "Huh?," there was nothing I could do to speak louder. I have a hard time accepting my diagnosis. Since I have been diagnosed for four months, I guess it is going to take a while. People sometimes think I have laryngitis, and maybe I should just say "Yes." The sad thing is it's laryngitis forever. I'll try to work on my attitude. There are worse things than SD. Happy New Year, everyone.

I feel your pain. It took me a while to accept the fact that this is something we all have to deal with and it's not easy. This bulletin board is great to vent on and everyone here understands the ups and downs that go with SD. I was in denial when I got diagnosed in 07 but after the grieving process - I picked myself up and I try to make the best of what I do have. Don't get me wrong-there are good days and bad. It's all in how you deal with it. I pray all the time for it to go away-maybe my prayer will be answered someday...Happy New Year..:)

I have found that sometimes it takes longer than others to get the results. It will probably continue to improve. Do be patient. Especially the lack of volume. This does definitely get better. Hang in there!

Hi, I know how you are feeling too. There are worse things than SD; I just watched my mom pass from cancer. Although, I hope you don't have to experience that-that experience helped me get things into perspective. I have had three Botox treatments now. I journal and graph my results day to day in order to compare the treatments and make predictions on when to expect declines in the side effects and voice quality. I definantly see consistant patterns. If I don't wait too long between injections most people don't even know I have a voice disorder. Your still in a changable period at 15 days. Things will get better!

Thanks for the encouragement. I went to the drugstore today, and the druggist didn't say, "Huh?" so I suppose I have improved. I guess I just expected a miracle. I tape record my voice every day or so, and I also did that when I was in speech therapy before botox. I am definitely better than I was then, so I can see some improvement. It was 15 degrees here (in Atlanta, Ga, of all places) this morning, and I know the cold and the home renovation we are doing are not helping my throat or sinuses any. I pray for patience.

Hello Pegi,
My name is Aubrey,
I am from Louisiana, but currently live in South Africa. I have seen two different specialists. One in Portland, Oregon and the other in Pittsburgh, PA. I had great results from both and both were excellent doctors.

Most all of my doses were the same with the same or very similar results. However, I get the breathiness for four to six weeks. However, the use of my voice is so much better. When I speak to people on the phone especially, most notice immediately. Bottom line.....you're right. Be patient.

Oh such a good idea to record the progress after an injection. I think I will start doing that too.
