Botox and a cold?

I was diagnosed (and mis-diagnosed) with SD when I was about 12, and only received my first Botox shot this past summer at age 23. Really sucked to go through the teen years with SD, but the Botox really works (yay!). However, my next injection is Wednesday, and I have just developed a wicked cough. Should I still go get the injection? They only hold the clinic once a month, so if I don't go Wednesday, I have to wait until after the new year, and I really don't want to wait that long. What would you guys suggest?
Also, I'm planning to get the H1N1 shot sometime soon, just b/c I work in the public. Do you think there would be any complications with that and the Botox?

Hi..Ring the clinic & speak to someone with authority who can advise you on whether or not it is Ok to have the shots when you have a bad cough..If your told that it is Ok then keep your appointment & hope that you don't have a coughing fit whilst your given the injection..Suck on some throat lozengers & have a drink of water just before you go in..Having to wait another month for me would be very disappointing..I'm really happy to hear that Botox is working wonders for you..Me too..Goodluck!! If I remember correctly, my doctor discouraged getting botox with a cold, but I don't know why. I would think that it would make you feel even worse for one.

I got a cough once right after an injection--man sitting behind me on the plane home coughed all the way. It was one of my worst experiences. Coughing right after an injection is very tiring. The cough doesn't come through the whispery vocal cords very well so I coughed a lot for a long time!
This was just my experience. I'd talk to the pros also.

Definitely check with your Dr about all that. I was on an antibiotic for a cold and they told me I had to wait a week to get the botox.

I have to get an immunization today and I just got botox 2 days ago. They said there are no complications between the two. But again, always double check! I'm usually a little tired after the botox, so I'm assuming I'll be really tired this weekend.

Well, I ended up not getting the shot. :( Which is really unfortunate. I was looking forward to having a great voice over Christmas, but the hospital only holds botox clinics once a month, so I now have to wait until Jan 6 to get my next one. It's going to be a long month. Plus I work at a grocery store, on cash and customer service, so dealing with phones is great fun.

Anyone have any tips on answering the phone, actually? I usually answer "Hello, Sobeys?" (which is much shorter than the long speech we're supposed to give, but the bosses haven't said anything), but I find I have difficulty getting it out as clearly as I would like a lot of the time.

MikenQuincy, I assume you mean where is the clinic? I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, so I get them done at the QE2 hospital in Halifax. I don't think there are that many people in the area which SD, so they only hold one clinic a month for everyone...which makes for a very busy waiting room. I'm only 23, and I know the first time I got the shot, I was with my mom (who is...not 23 ;)), me the youngest of all the patients by at least 20, 30 years. I know everyone was quite surprised when the doc came out, called my name, and I got up and not my mom. There was a look of surprise on everyones face as I walked past!

I can't say hello. It always breaks up really bad. So, I avoid it completely-especially when I use the phone. I'm on the phone all day for work now.

I use this approach at work:
____ may I help you?

You might also try:
___ how may I direct your call?

Or if you're feeling really ambitious:
Thanks for calling ___ , may I help you?

PS, I was 25 when I got SD. I'm 30 now. I understand how weird it feels being the youngest one in the room getting Botox. But, keep in mind, regardless of our ages, we all go through the same things with SD. I know its hard, but try not to feel so out of place. Once I got over that, I started making lots of SD friends that I'm extremely thankful for.

Hi. I have difficulty on the phone as well. I have found that if I am standing, I can get my words out better. That may not be feasible in your job though. Good luck to you.

Wow, I have noticed too that if I'm standing I do better. Funny. I work in a grocery store too so it's nice to hear of someone else in my same situation. I cannot say hello well either if my voice is bad. I try to come up with something else (usually an initial "hard" sound rather than soft is better). Your appt. is coming soon, yeah! I am going through another issue where my insurance is changing and I need to find a new botox doctor. I'ts hard to think about starting over with a new one. This doc. has seen me through alot of changes and made adjustments for them. Well, good luck to you.
