After 5 years of being misdiagnosed and 4 operations later, I eventually 'fought' for botox injections after diagnosing myself through the internet and after being told by my ENT specialist that I was not 'typically symptamatic' of SD. Strange as I have a strangled voice, which sounds clearer when I laugh or sing and struggle to speak on the telephone and in loud environments. I am a teacher so my voice is essential to my work. I have had 4 botox injections ( no idea what amounts) which have given me small improvements. My last injection was last week but has completely failed!! I am however pleased that I have been given funding to see Dr Brookes at the Harley st clinic, London. Has anyone have any experience at this clinic? Also, I have now developed a small twitching of my left eye which comes and goes intermittently- is this related to SD, anyone else have this??

I've had ABSD for about a year. I have had a twitch in one eye intermittently for longer than that. I wear contact lenses, so I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't encourage the twitching. It also seems to be worse when there is pollen or dust around. I'm doubting that the eye twitch has anything to do with the SD, but who knows! Maybe if enough people post here, we might be onto something! Tom from Virginia |

Hi, I have had SD-AB for 20 years, and right before the first symptoms appeared, I had been experiencing a lot of eye twitching...just in right eye....I was wearing contacts also.......round the same time I came down with the SD (not knowing for 2 yrs what it was) I had to quit wearing the contacts...due to lots of irritation in the twitching eye.....and also shortly before the SD symptoms started, I had severe bronchitis. I always wondered if the eye twitching had something to do with the vocal spasms...is the same part of the brain involved...does anyone know!? Vicki Lanier in Georgia |

I too have eye twitching in my lower eyelid of my left eye. I also have spasm in my left cheek. This seems to happen when I look down and to the left but both eye spasms appear when I am stressed. I also have writer's cramp in my right hand (have started to see some in my left as well). I have talked with a few people and it seems that these other dystonias are related. I am going to go see a neurologist soon to see if they recommend anything. |

I have SD and my sister has blephraspasm (not sure if my spelling is correct) which is spasm of the eyelids. She also receives botox injections , for these spasms. Her doctor feels that the two of us inherited these conditions. |
