Botox reactions? Strider, shortness of breath? | ![]() | ||

I am a 54 year wife, mother and grandmother of 7. I was recently diagnosed with SD Adductor type with MTD in September '08. I had my first and only botox injection on November 15 (almost 10 weeks ago). For the past 3-4 weeks, I began having shortness of breath, especially when I exert myself. Has anyone experienced a reaction such as this post-botox? MY ENT told me this is called paradoxical vocal cord strider and could be caused by stress or could be neurological. I seem to always have this shortness of breath now, and the only thing that helps is an anti-anxiety medicine. Any information would be helpful....thank you! |

I've had 3 rounds of injections with the most recent being mid-January. I have severe ADSD, and they injected 33.5 units of Botox to 8 muscles that are spasming. As with previous injections, I've experienced getting winded when exercising. It does wear off, but it has taken up to a month and a half to two months. Momof2boys |

Thank you for your reply, which is quite encouraging. So, you think the Botox caused the strider, is that right? And when the Botox wears off the strider stopped, is that correct? I had Botox injected on Nov. 15 (2.5 units on each side). I truly think this is the cause of the strider I'm experiencing. I hope the Botox wears off soon....this is so difficult to live with. |

Hi,
I've heard of people having shortness of breath with mixed ADductor and ABductor. Has your doctor investigated that possibility? Irish |

IF the stridor happened after the botox than its the botox injection that caused it. If you lower the injection it will be better next time.

Did your stridor go away after the Botox wore off? |

Hi Shelley, I am 48 and since September 07. I have been in the High Dependance Unit in hospital 6 times 1-3 weeks at a time with acute Dystonic Respiratory stridor / AD,AB Dysphonia, a cough that sounds like croup and shortness of breath which only responds to nebulised adrenalin. This can be brought on by exercise, cold / misty weather and any irritation of the larynx even by having botox.
