Hi, I have been taking Claritan D for my allergies. I never took it before. I have such a great improvement with my voice. I remember years ago I took Seldane for allergies, which is now off the market. That also had a great improvement on my voice. I researched the if there was a common ingredient in both medicines and there was. IT is called pseudoephedrine. IT is a decongestant.
Has anyone else ever noticed a improvement after using Claritan D or any other allergy/cold med. with pseudoephedrinen as a active ingredient.
I was due for my botox but this is working so good I dont have to yet.

I'm willing to try anything someone suggests. Have had over 70 botox injections for the past 14 years. I do have allergies and it seems like I'm always taking a decongestant, but have never tried Claritan D. Thanks!

decongestants, even small amounts caffiene help to "firm"up the wobble in my voice a bit.I buy the generic pseudoephedrine. I too have allergies. However, I take part of an allergy pill (benedryl, chlortrimiton..generic equals) with this...BUT only 1/2 of the allergy pill. I have mixed type SD with also a tad semi facial dystonia. I dont always take the allergy pill w/ decongestants, but both work better at voice quality than Klonopin! I've had SD since age 14...43 yrs and believe me I've tried it all...Botox never worked for me. The tremor I have is also better. Glad to hear someone else is helped by this , good news. As side note I have ADD and the decongestants help focusing for me. I dont take every single day just to give my body a rest; dont wont to build up immunity. Best wishes from the beaches of NC!

Someone mentioned Delsym cough syrup a long time ago on this board, so about three months ago I tried it. It extended the time between shots to seven months.

Also when I had my latest shot and got that tight feeling in my throat I took Delsym and it reduced that feeling. I only had about two down days when I could hardly talk at all.

I also work to keep my allergies under control and that seems to make a difference in the time between shots.

I have posted several times in the past about Delsym. It is great to hear that it's helping someone else. I'd love to hear if there are more success stories about it out there! Personally I haven't had to take it or anything else for over a year now, and my voice has remained strong. I have a little tightness in stressful situations, but nothing like it was in the past.

I noticed about a decade ago that taking pseudoephedrine seemed to help my speaking. Hundreds of generic allergy and cold medicines have it as an ingredient. I simply bought Sudafed or its generic.

Problem was that I started taking it every day so that I could speak. Pseudoephedrine constricts the blood vessels and causes increased blood pressure. It is good for you voice, but bad for your heart. Don't take it just to sound better.

Consider what constricted blood vessels do to your sexual performance. I thought I was having a serious problem, but turns out it was the pseudoephedrine. I prefer sex over sounding good....

Wow, I'm really glad I read all this. I'm due for a Botox shot and not sure when I'm going to get one. I'm definitely going to try this and see if it helps.

The two things I've found that has really made a big difference is drinking wine or alcohol and excercise. After a glass of wine or a good workout, I'm a new person! And it certainly puts me in a good mood too. So if you're looking for that non-medicine approach, try going for a run twice a day. :)

wine works great.
I have a perfect voice when I drink it.
It helps if I have to make alot of phone calls. Two glasses and I can talk for hours........

What dosage of pseudoepineprine works for those who are taking this and benefitting from it?

I took on claritan D and it helped.
In my opinion Delysm cough med works the best. Dextromethorphan is that main ingredient

I think that in this modern world with all the stuff that is spewed into the air, almost everyone has allergies. Sometimes they are almost unnoticeable, others are horrible.

I don't think that Claritin or Delsym can "fix" SD. But I do think that controlling allergies can help manage SD. Vocal cords that aren't working correctly are going to be even worse if they are all clogged up with sinus drippings.

Good luck to us all in our search for our voice.
