Is VCD and SD the same thing. Does anyone have both. Or can you
have both. It seems that they are similar.

I have both AB/SD and Vocal Chord Dysfunction (VCD). The SD affects mostly my voice, while the VCD affects mostly my breathing. Many people with VCD are misdiagnosed with asthma. This has been discussed previously on this board and there is a lot of information in the archives.

The best source for information about VCD, also known as Paradoxical Vocal Cord Motion (PVFM), can be found at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center website at http://www.nationaljewish.org/disease-info/diseases/vcd/management.aspx.

Hope this helps.

Can VCD cause you to get SD? Years ago I though I had asthma.
But as I read about VCD, I believe that is what it was. The doctor
never really said it was asthma. Just probably assumed it was.I have not had any problems in along time with it. Will it go away
or do you have it for life? Thanks for your response.

I don't think there is any evidence that VCD can cause SD. I don't know whether it ever goes away on its own. Thinking back on my own experience, I had the VCD symptoms before I had the SD symptoms. The Botox injections I get for SD definitely make the breathing problems associated with VCD much better for me. It's worth getting the injections just for that as the shots have never really helped my voice much.
