Greetings all - I posted a few months ago about hopeful beneficial effects of Topamax to SD. Unfortunately, I couldn't tolerate Topamax. My prescription has since changed and maybe it's just me, but I don't think so because I don't have as many people asking me to repeat myself. I have changed from Topamax to Lamictal 100mg at night. I take fluoxetine 40mg as well and clonazepam p.r.n. which is not too often, one a day every few days. Any, my point is, is that I feel the effects of Lamictal plus fluoxetine (Prozac) help to a great degree.I'm not speaking perfectly but most of the time it is adequate. I feel I don't 'force' my voice as much, which of course helps a bunch. Just wanted to pass this on. My job is very stressful, which we all know contributes to exacerbation of SD, so, at least in my case, my stress has decreased with medication and my voice has improved as a result. I'm quite happy with these results even though there are times when I sound like my old pre-medication self.

Have you ever tried cough syrup. It works pretty good to. You
only have to take two teaspoons in the morn before eating.

When you mention cough syrup, you are probably taking one that contains dextromethorphan. This is the ingredient that acts as a cough suppressant.

You should be aware that dextromethorphan comes with all kinds of health warnings - check them out at this web site which discusses Vicks Formula 44 which has dextromethorphan as its only active ingredient:
