Hi. I was diagnosed with adductor SD in 1989. Because I have been fairly functional and live far away from botox providers, I have never tried botox. HOWEVER, I recently had an unusual experience. I broke out in a rash and had facial swelling while I was out of town. I was given a corticosteroid shot and put on prednisone, starting with 40 mg and then tapering to 10 mg. I noticed a pronounced improvement in my vocal quality and ease of speaking. At the time I was out of town, and when I returned home, I talked to my husband about whether or not he had also noticed a vocal change, and he said he noticed it the day I called long distance after having the shot! The improvement lasted until I was lowered to 5 mg Prednisone. Unfortunately, it is not possible to take Prednisone for long periods of time.Has anyone else ever had this experience? Does anyone else have any idea WHY the prednisone might improve someone with SD? Is it possible that I have been misdiagnosed and perhaps might have voice tremor rather than SD?
Since experiencing such an easy voice, I have renewed interest in perhaps trying botox. I live in Central California, and it is not practical for me to travel to L.A. or San Francisco for ongoing treatments. DOes anyone know of a botox provider in Fresno, Bakersfield, or Visalia? Thanks for any info you might have. DIKIN
