Search the archives. There's lots of information about medicines that have helped some people, including Baclofen.

Good luck!

I've been trying Baclofen for two weeks now. It does ease the muscle spasms, making speech a bit easier. But I am trying to figure out the right dosage and minimize the side effects.

I started at 5mg (half of a 10 mg tablet) once a day for a week. Then I progressed to 5mg twice a day and saw some voice improvement. Now I am taking 5mg three times a day and it is working even better. At this point, my spasms have subsided quite a bit and I'm working on proper breathing control.
However, being able to tolerate Baclofen's side effects is the problem. I weigh just over 200 pounds, yet the 5mg dose can make me sleepy. While it is doing wonders for my nightly sleep, the challenge is to stay awake during the afternoon!

Since Baclofen is a muscle relaxant, I consider it a much lower risk than many of the psych drugs on the market. If your family care physician is willing to sign off on Baclofen,
why not give it a try - very low dosage....

I tried baclofen for a while but it didn't help. I found clonazepam and gabapentin to be the only effective medications (for me), at least for several years.

Sorry for the delay but I only check the BB now once per month. I'm not sure why your MD hasn't heard of these two medications. They are very commonly used. Clonazepam is the generic name for Klonopin (US) or Rivotril (Canada); it is usually prescribed as an anti-anxiety agent or for muscle relaxation; it is also used as an anti-seizure medication. Gabapentin is the generic for Neurontin which is typically used for seizures. I took .5mg of the clonazepam at bedtime and .25mg in the AM, and 300mg of the gabapentin 100mg spaced out every 8 hours. NB: each person will react differently to these medications so it's a bit of trial and error, but they helped me to minimize the spasms without incurring too much drowsiness. Let me know how you do.
