I received this information from the Dallas Support Group.

Allergan, the makers of Botox, have expanded their Patient Assistance Program to provide Botox at no charge to financially eligible patients who are either uninsured or underinsured.

To receive help from the program, you must:

1. Be uninsured or underinsured
2. Have income less than or equal to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level
3. Have a diagnosis that is supported by clinical reference
4. Be a resident of the United States or Puerto Rico

More information and applications are available on their website or by calling their hotline.

That's good information.
I'd like to add, that for people that are insured it is very important to make sure the Billing Dept. of your Dr's office CLEARLY STATE that the Botox was used for a medical purpose, NOT cosmetic purposes.
I had a close call with my Ins. Co. the first go around not wanting to pay because they thought "Botox = cosmetic" Luckily this was cleared up before to much confusion was created with all the "red tape" paperwork.
I think it will be awhile before people will relate Botox to things other than face lifts.

Unfortunately,

I called my insurance company to tell them that I need botox injections so that I can talk. They said it would not be covered since it was an office visit and similar to a surgery or something stupid like that. I won't even bother fighting them. When I absolutely need to get an injection, I will get it. That's all I need to know.

Take Care,

Paula

I recommend that you call the Botox Patient Assistance Hotline at 1-800-44-BOTOX. They will contact your insurance company and provide documentation and assistance regarding the medical necessity of using Botox for SD, which may get your insurance company to provide coverage. I've never used them myself, but I've heard from others that they are very good to have on your team when disputing an adverse benefit decision with your insurance company.

Good luck!

Thanks Lori,

In my case, having insurance is definitly a catch 22. It's good to have insurance, and be insured, but every time you use it, there is a fear of rates going up. Plus, having a high deductable so we can afford insurance doesn't help at all either. Get this, our rates have also gone up after aging. Rediculous!!

Take Care,

I've read that if you contact the makers of Botox, they will help you. Don't let the insurance company's and pharmaceutical company's get any richer than they already are, you sometimes CAN get what you want if you put up a fight with big business.
I'm sure you worked hard for your money?
