So...an interesting article appeared in my newspaper indicating that Mr. Adams cured himself of SD by remapping his brain through the repetitive use of nursery rhymes. Anyone else read this? Interesting to say the least. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

As I put on another post, I think Mr. Adam's SD went into remission--or else he had MTD. I don't think that anyone has ever been "cured" of pure SD...

I tend to agree that it may not have been pure SD, although the concept of neuroplasticity is a very intriguing one that certainly may have potential benefits for various illnesses where neural pathways are involved. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Mr. Adams voice later on.

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I posted.Computer crashed and haven't been back since then.
Regarding Mr. Adams and his cure.
I also had a 90% remission several years ago and remain fairly good without Botox.
I still spasm but not nearly as much.Nobody but my friends and family pick up on it,but there's still a bit of frustration.
I'm glad Mr. Adams is better, and I wish you all were,as I know what it's like to have a severe case.
Mine was severe for about 3 years.I had about 15 botox rxs with not very good results,so the remission came as a complete shock.
It would be good to hear the stories of anyone else with the same story.
Cheers to all.

Just wanted to underscore Pat's post. I also consider myself 90% cured, still occasionally with a break-up and for the most part only noticed by family and friends. Mine was very severe for more than 10 years (got SD in '85, then in the late '90's it started slowly getting better) Never took Botox. Don't know anything about 're-mapping', but time has certainly been a factor in whatever healing process has occured with me. Best to all.

One doctor tells me I have SD (in my singing voice), and another isn't sure. Because there is so much ambiguity, I'm not ready to say Scott Adams didn't have SD, or that SD wouldn't respond to "re-mapping" the brain. I am trying Alexander TEchnique, which involves becoming aware of bad habits and trying to re-map the body. My instructor knows of people who experienced SD symptoms. AFter a couple of years of AT, they regained their voices. One woman wouldn't believe she was holding her body in a certain position when she talked, and she was only convinced by repeatedly watching a video of herself. Anyway, I'm giving it a try for the next couple of years. Thanks, Tracey
