I've seen it before but can't find it now, where on the NSDA web site is a list of medicines that could cause or make worse, SD?

thanks

I found this information on Dystonia Website,http://www.dystonia-foundation.org/defined/causes.asp. It is not a list of medicines.

Is there any correlation between general anesthetics and dystonia?
There is not a causal link between general anesthetics and dystonia. Certain types of medication can cause dystonia. The medications most frequently implicated include antipsychotic agents and certain medications used to treat nausea and vomiting. These agents can cause acute and reversible symptoms of dystonia at the time of administration, most often involving the eyes, face, jaw, oral muscles, neck and back, or can produce chronic dystonia following prolonged use, called tardive dystonia. Agents used as general anesthetics are not directly linked to dystonia.

There is no list of this kind on the NSDA website, and to the best of my knowledge, never has been.

There has been a list, possibly more than one version, around on the internet for a number of years, and it refers to dystonia generally, not SD specifically.

Here is a section of advice from one of the Dystonia BB moderators explaining why the DMRF does not host a list of this nature:

"The "no-no list" does not appear on the DMRF site or as a link on the BB because the doctors who advise the DMRF do not believe that the list is valid for the purposes that it has been used for on many forums. The list that people speak of was a list of drugs that have been associated with Tardive Dyskinesia - a specific form of dystonia. Inclusion of a drug on that list does not necessarily mean anything of general significance to people with other forms of dystonia. It is NOT a list of drugs that should be "avoided" by patients with Dystonia. Most of the dystonia and movement disorder websites have removed specific lists of drugs because the lists were being abused.

The general advice is that ANY drug which affects neurotransmitters - most signficantly those that affect the Dopamine system - should be taken only under the advice of a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders, and that the risks and benefits of the drug should be considered for the specific patient."

Source for the quote: http://www.dystonia-bb.org/forumarchives/asd/46331.html#46331

If, after reading that, you still want to read the list then try googling this string: "dystonia list of meds to avoid"

Best wishes

The NSDA does not have any list of medicines that cause SD. However, the DMRF site does have a List of Drugs that Cause Dystonia. The web site link is:

http://www.dystonia-foundation.org/treatment/oral.asp#causing

Copy/paste the above link into your browser and it will take you directly to the appropriate web page.
