I was diagnosed with SD about 18 years ago and it was never back then that there were two different kinds.

In adductor the spasms keep your vocal cords close together producing a strangled like voice. In abductor the vocal cords stay far apart producing a "breathy" sound and little to no volume. Many people have a combination of both forms. Abductor is the rarer of the two and the most difficult to treat.Abductor is difficuly because of the location of the muscle that has to be injected. Adductor is the form most sucessfully treated with botox but there have been successes with abductor as well. Check the NSDA website for examples of the difference between the two forms of SD.
