Over the moon in Michigan....I got my first shot of botox this past Wednesday From Dr. Michael Rontal in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He and his speech therapist colleague, Dr. Michael Rolnick were convinced that I had MTD and botox would not work, but Rolnick persuaded him to inject since 8 or so months of speech therapy have not been effective. At all. The ENT actually said he really had no hope for botox working but I got a .3 dose of whatever units they use. So that was Wednesday. All Wednesday I noticed no difference and cried all throughout my classes. Then Thursday morning and suddenly I'm able to speak, ranging from 90% to 100% normal voice.. So of course I yell at random strangers and talk to anything, anyone. I'm so giddy and incredulous right now. I do have the typical side effects; I do tend to choke on liquids, and my voice tired last night and got kind of crackly and raspy but not breathy. As a side note, I've noticed a lot people on this website who have SD but are afraid of getting a toxin injected into their throat. Guys, think of chemotherapy or radiation treatment. These both RAVAGE healthy tissue and malignant tissue, but they are a means to an end. BOTOX ROCKS! It just may save your life, as debilitating as this can be.
Yes, I am definitely thankful for this website and everyone that contributes. My hat is off to the old timers on this website who have gone through this for many more years (I'm 22) and who have gone through years of misdiagnoses. Thank you pioneers. :)
