Hi,

Can anyone offer an explanation as to what a bowed vocal cord has to do with SD? I have ADSD, MTD and a bowed vocal cord. My doctor has never explained what that means or why it happens.

Thanks,
Vicki

I have the same problem. My last visit to my local ENT told me the bow in my chords is much worse than when he saw me last. I had read on this board that the theory was it was caused by the force of trying to speak. I wonder if it could be atrophy due to none use. I lost my voice in September, 2003 and failed all treatment options. My voice has continued to get worse and is barely understandable even my whisper has grown garbled. Does anyone know the answer to this problem?

Dear Vicki,

According to Dr. James Thomas on his website, "the vocal folds may be bowed, thinned and/or convex, rather than straight".

For further information, I would recommend going to Dr. Thomas's website at: www.voicedoctor.net.

Another useful website to look at for further information is the one put out by a non-profit educational foundation, the Watergate Voice Foundation. Contact them at: www.voiceproblem.org.

Good luck to you.

Sincerely,
