I have ABSD and speak with a whisper in order to communicate clearly.

Is anyone aware of any type headset that works with cell phones and house phones to amplified outgoing voice volume? I am aware that there are house phones on the market that amplified outgoing voice volume. But, I am looking for something mainly to use with cell phone, like a headset or other devices. I have searched the internet, but haven't found anything yet.

Also, anyone have any luck being eligible for S.S. Disability?

Thanks, Robert

Robert - Since my failed SLAD surgery in 2000, my voice is more like someone with AB/SD. Before the surgery, I was very much an AD/SD. Now, my voice is very breathy and I push a ton of air to make sound. Cell phones are a problem. Chattervox sells a headset with a foam noise canceling piece that fits over the mic. It seems to reduce the "wind" noise. I'd look for headsets with that sort of feature - the foam piece designed to cancel out "wind" noise.
I have a handset for my phone that amplifies my voice. It seems to work well for most people. It does have a volume control on the handset. Unfortunately, the hand set only fits onto the old style square phones so you have to have that, too. Hope this helps. If I can provide more information, just ask. John (AD/SD; Failed SLAD)

Hello Robert,

Similar to what John said, I had vocal surgery for AD-SD so have more breathing struggles (more similar to AB-SD) post-surgery.

I own a Chattervox, but my voice is so erratic that it doesn't work for me. The ugly voice is also amplified, and so are the breathing spasms. No one wants to hear such sounds louder. For people with a fairly even soft voice, some amplifiers work well.

I won't give you a website (commercial URL's disallowed on this BB) but do a Google search on "Luminaud." There is much information there, about devices similar to what you describe.

Also, I'm on SSDI (Social Security Disability for severe voice and breathing) so feel free to write me off the BB for additional information.

Good luck!

--Lynne (AD-SD; RLN surgery; PVFM; Northern California)

Hi Robert,

My name is ACS (pronunced ACEs. I too have ABSD and speak in a whispering voice in order to be understood effectively. I have a VoiceVox, amplification device. I also have an amplified home phone, but sorry, I don't use a cell phone so I don't know of any devices that are compatable to the cell phone. Thou, I do have information on communication devices with enablemart products, they might be able to direct you to other contacts. I like my amplification device, it helps in certain situations.

For your second question on SSD, I just started receiving it in April, 2005. It was a long battle with them. My mistake was that I did'nt Appeal, instead I would let time pass and not deal with it and refile after a period of time lapsed. Finally after finishing five years of studying and not obtaining a job, I refiled and whala, they decided I was considered disabled under the disability laws. Are you considering filing or have you already filed?

I am in the process of trying to get it. I'll post my results for all to see. Valerie
