Hi all, How are you? I hope you´re fine.

First of all I want to say I´m a new member of BB and English is not my mother tonge so excuse me for my bad English!

Yesterday I got into this web page http://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/Spasmodic-Dysphonia.htm and it was really astonishing for me to know I had suffered I´d all SD symptoms for the last 12 months. During this time I´ve consulted three "ear, nose and throat specialists" and two speech therapist, just the last speech therapist I attended said to me I could suffer from SD.

I have to say right now I´m much better and my voice is normal almost all the time, this recovery has coincided with a change in my "pace-life", I mean, I try really hard not to be stressed, take all time I need to do any kind of action, not just working, but having lunch, walking...and of course, when I speak I speak slowly, clearly.

I´ve read some other messages from this BB and I´ve concluded the root of this pathology cannot be physic but psicologic, if not, How can it be explained that there´re periods of good voice, that usually coincide with holydays, concomitants with periods of bad voice?

I´d depict myself as a very sensitive person, quite insecure, shy, and who has felt groaned by the job, I write this just to know if some of you islike me, maybe a patter of behaviour can be found amongst BB patients.

I advice you to try to be in the good mood, everything can change in one´s life, and you know, try to relax, you´re not in a hurry!!! even go to a speech therapist, it can be very helpful.

I think what I´ve said will not be able to help you all but at least I hope it´ll help to some of you.

If you wnat to contact me don´t doubt it, my e-mail addres is ulisesfjml@gmail.com, anyway I think you can replay me in the BB, don´t you?

At the bottom of this message I´ll write some words in Spanish and French some in case somebody is looking for some information in the google about SD and don´t know English.

My best wishes for all you, good luck and cheers!

Fran, Spain.

Hi Fran - thanks for that; I have not been diagnosed with anything other than general "dysphonia" yet but I'm trying very hard to think about "life-pace" too and just try to relax as possible. I have to realise that worrying about my silly voice will not make it better and that stress might well make things worse - so here's to relaxation!

I began to meditate regularly to feel more relaxed. Feeling less stress I'm sure is helpful but not a cure.
This hasn't significantly helped my dysphonia, but it has helped me accept my voice difficulties - do the best I can when I speak - stop apologizing unnecessarily about my voice. Sometimes it sounds so godawful.
I haven't joined a group in Austin because I haven't wanted to make this a focus of my life. But this year I may consider going to meetings for some support.
Thanks,
Marcia from Austin
