24 Week Report

There has been some noticeable changes in the past two weeks. My voice is stronger in the mornings. I attended a meeting yesterday in a fairly large room. Ceilings were low and the audience was quiet. I spoke at some length and everyone seemed to be able to hear and understand me. This is promising. So I think there is progress, albeit slow. John

Great news, John! The question was never whether it would come, but when. Glad it's finally happening. Gene

John,

Great news about your voice. I am at 16 weeks now and have the low monotone voice, once in a while, a few words slip out almost normal. I have had my first cold in 8 years and coughing my head off at times-this definitely has not helped my voice recovery. At least when someone says do I have laryngitis, I can truthfully answer "Yes" due to the toll all the coughing and sore throat has taken on my voice. By the way, my son had surgery yesterday at St. Vincent's and the nurse caring for him asked me if I had the same voice problem she has. She said she had a virus and now her vocal cords are paralyzed and although she can speak without strain ,her voice is very soft. She said she will never be able to yell at her husband again. I told her I fully expected to be able to do that in a couple more months or so. We have a lot to look forward too. Barb

Great news, John. It's like baby steps, and every noticeable step should be blessed. Yesterday I went back to my company to go through my computer files. My colleagues were surprised to hear how much clearer and louder I was since they saw me a month ago. We can liken our experience to a birth -- and one day our new voice will be born. But not until it's ready. Take care. -Joan

(I'm going to try this again...my first post didn't go through)
Hi Everyone,
I am now 17 weeks post op. I was getting a little bit concerned about my progress because I had read a few posts about people that had surgery after me and were progressing faster. I also spoke to a girl on the telephone that had surgery the same day as me and to say the least, she sounded fabulous. I was at that smooth, quiet, monotone voice for the last few weeks without any change. It's funny that I was a bit concerned and now over the last few days I am hearing a difference in my voice. My family and friends say I am getting much more volume all of a sudden. This morning after first waking up, I started talking to my husband and this loud, smooth voice came out. I couldn't believe it. It was really exciting to hear. My husband actually turned around and said, "you're voice!" After a few minutes of talking with the louder voice, it went back to the quieter, smooth voice, but I have a feeling something is beginning to break through.
I hope everyone has a Happy and Safe Holiday.
Debbie
