DOES ANYONE EXPERIENCE A SORE THROAT, COUGHIING AND DIFFICULTY BREATHING AT TIMES? I HAVE HAD SD FOR AROUND 8-9 YEARS...I HAVE HAD SORE THROATS BEFORE THAT SEEMED TO BE SD RELATED. RECENTLY THE INCIDENTS HAVE INCREASED BOTH IN SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY.

Sue, I'm convinced my constant sore throats contributed greatly to me getting ABSD. I had many sore throats as a child but as trends in medicine go, it was unpopular at the time to have your child's tonsils removed. So, I suffered through and basically they went away through my young adulthood. I started getting horrible sore throats again in my late 20's early 30's. I asked my doc about getting my tonsils out and was told I was too old and I shouldn't do it. I was in and out of his office several times and never tested positive for strep so he'd just tell me to take tylenol. After that, whenever I had a sore throat I would be on tylenol for weeks with swollen glands and fevers. My SD symptoms started as I was dealing with these throat problems. Even though it was too late to help the SD, I decided to have my tonsils out at age 35 in Jan.(5 mos. ago). It was horribly painful but I haven't had a sore throat since and my mystery fevers are gone. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I wish I had pressed my doctor about this earlier, and had been more aggressive. Hind sight is 20/20, but I really do believe this was the cause of my SD. I think the swelling and fevers somehow damaged my nerve to brain communication and created some sort of crazy feedback that causes my spasms. I also have a left vocal cord weakness due to this. I have learned that I am responsible for my own health and I will never rely on someone else again. I'm angry with myself as I think my SD could have been prevented.

I'm so sorry to hear about the way you're feeling, and I can't honestly say if sore throats were the cause of SD. I can say though that we depend on doctors, to know the right thing, and if I were you I wouldn't blame myself. How could you really have known when your doctor was telling you not to have your tonsils removed? I'm not sure any of us would have known better. Best of luck and I hope this helps even a little bit!

Well, since I have just received my diagnosis of SD , I can tell you that I have had a cough since January that seems to be different from the past , it seemed to concern my Speech Therapist at my first appointment ..so I am unsure if it is related to SD .

Since I have asthma ...I couldn't say if my shortness of breath was Asthma or SD....can only get a w...sound + one, two out in a breath without SD kicking in...

They report they will have to undo my body's compenstation techniques before they can tell me for sure what type I have z(15+ years of not knowing) I think they are pretty sure about AD but are unsure if I have it ALL...
