I wondered if anyone who has SD have been able to sing

with their SD? I read in a booklet that "symptoms may

improve or disappear when yawning, laughing, singing or

relaxing"

I used to sing a lot when I was in school, but that was

20+ years ago. I was recently invited to audition for a

singing group that does barbershop type music. I was so

thrilled at the prospect, but was concerned due to my

voice 'problems', and then I got diagnosed with AB/SD.

Could it be possible that I may be able to still sing?

I don't want to worsen my SD, but if there's no harm, I'd

love to give it a try....

From what I understand, singing comes from a different part of the brain than does speech...that's why most people with SD can sing okay.

Only one way to find out.....and that's doing it. Eventually, however, the SD can creep into the singing voice and cause issues in regards to registration and stability of tone....

I had AD/SD. When you sing, you use 95% of your lung capacity to activate your vocal cords. Thus, singing - pushing all that air would sound "normal". But when you talk, you only use 5% of your lung capacity, so the amount of air moving past the cords is insufficient to activate them. I would assume that AB/SD patients would not see this sort of results.

When I yawn, I have an almost 100% improved voice. Ditto goes for singing. I can't sing very well, though, at the beginning stages of the botox or myobloc shot. All that comes out is a bunch of air!!!

Hi Everyone, I have AD/SD but my singing voice left me way before my SD started. I sang for years but then when I was in my forties, my voice started to go and now the only time I can sing is after a good botox injection. I, like you Renee, have a big improvement in my voice when I yawn but unfortunately, I only get a few words out.
