Hi,everyone! I had my 1st injection Thursday & it was just a small dose in the front. My Dr. told me it may take a few experiments to find the right dose & area, which for AB really needs to be the back muscle but said he would have to put me to sleep for the back injection! He is trying this 1st just to see how I do.He told me I would lose my voice down to a whisper in 2 days but this is 2 days later & still have voice but no change to spasm so maybe it didn't work-who knows! Anyway, sorry to ramble on-just excited to finally be getting treatment! Good luck to everyone in their quest for relief!

Hi Mitch,

I'd give it at least one more day to see what happens. The botox usually kicks in between 24 - 72 hours or so, and if there are no changes, then I would have to say that the doc did not hit the bullseye, unfortunately.

I'm not sure I fully understand it though when you say he injected a "small dose in the front" I thought the PCA abductor muscles are at the back, so I'm lost as to exactly where your doc injected.

Fancynancy who posts on here also has ABductor SD and her doctor has recently experimented with her by injecting a small dose in the compensatory muscles ( see link below)

Mitch - there is another technique used for injecting Botox for AB patients which involves going, from the front, right across the airway. Dr Bastian (Loyola, Chicago) spoke about it at the NSDA symposium in detroit last year and his patients are getting good results with it.
