Please “Save the Date” for our planned Book Club meeting of the three SD support groups of Northern California on Zoom: Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 4:00 pm California time.
We’re announcing this meeting way ahead of time so that many of you can order and read the book we’re going to discuss: Dot Sowerby’s Speechless No More: A Life Transformed by a Voice Disorder. The book costs $15 and can be ordered from the NSDA website by clicking on this link: https://nsda.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/nsda/giftstore.jsp
Dot will be joining us all the way from Charlotte, North Carolina for this meeting, which we’re going to conduct more like a book club than a support group meeting. We hope you’ll come with questions about the book to ask Dot. As many of you know, 88-year-old Dot Sowerby is a force of nature, much beloved by all of us who are active in the NSDA. She was one of our first support group leaders, has been on the board almost from the very beginning, is a past President of NSDA, and still travels around the country to man our NSDA booth at meetings of health professionals who treat spasmodic dysphonia. In her attached letter, Dot shares a few thoughts about the book.
We hope you can make time to be part of this special meeting on Zoom.
By the way, give yourselves a round of applause for raising $3,850 in the Walk for Talk, a huge event for our organization that is already starting to fund important research in the quest to find a cure for SD. The combined efforts of our support groups in Oakland, Sacramento and Silicon Valley put our team “Northern California Goes for the Gold” in 4th place among all the fundraising support group teams around the country.
Look forward to getting together with you as we start a new year – hopefully a year of health and community where we turn the corner on Covid. Thanks to you all who make time to support our common cause to improve the lives of people with SD.
